Hazardous Animal Quarantine

LCHS will provide quarantine services for animals that are under a police ordered quarantine after a bite incident. The owners must be residents of Lincoln County, WI.

Quarantine fee is $200 for a 10 day quarantine. The fee is non-refundable and not pro-rated if the quarantine falls under 10 days. The fee must be paid at the time the animal is brought to LCHS. Cash or credit/debit card payments are allowed. Card payments do have a 4% surcharge.

LCHS will not provide the 3 required veterinary exams. The transportion, expense, and scheduling of these appointments will be considered the responsibility of the animal’s owner. It will also be the responsibility of the owner to ensure the police and/or health department receive the appropriate paperwork from the veterinary office after the third exam. Owners are not allowed to interact with their animals other than to go to and from veterinary appointments. The owner accepts full liability for any issues that may occur.

If the owner is not interested in keeping the pet, we recommend the owner contact the veterinarian for euthanasia services and to have tissue samples sent in for the rabies exam. Animals with a bite history are not considered adoptable at LCHS and cannot be surrendered to LCHS.

Quarantine services are available at all times. If the shelter is not open to schedule a time to bring the animal in, please contact the Sheriff’s Department at 715-536-6272. The Sheriff’s Department can contact LCHS to notify our staff of the quarantine order. If the bite incident occurs during the night, it is likely the call will be returned the next morning.

If the animal has a current rabies vaccine, the quarantine may be able to be completed at the owner’s home. Owners must contact the Health Department and/or Sheriff’s Department for further information on the option to quarantine at home.
