Wildlife Rescue Information
September 13, 2026

Every week, LCHS posts the numbers of three local wildlife centers for the public to contact in case of an emergency. We do this to help all animals that may need human intervention.
BUT we cannot take the wild animals at LCHS, no matter the urgency, if a donation is offered, or any other circumstance.
There are multiple reasons why LCHS is not capable of caring for wild birds and other wildlife, as much as we may want to help.
1. There is a special training and skill set to caring for our wild neighbors. A treatment or food that may be appropriate for a dog or cat isn’t the same as what a wild animal needs. Wildlife rehabiliators know what to do to properly care for wild animals.
2. There are also diseases, parasites, and other dangers that can transfer from wild animals to humans. To ensure everyone’s safety, call the wildlife centers before handling wildlife and get their advice on how to move forward.
3. LCHS has to pay our staff to drive wild animals to the local facilities, which sometimes cannot even take the animal. We operate with limited staff and if a volunteer is not available, it is a struggle to call in an employee to drive. Wildlife rescues may even have volunteers to help transport animals in need.
Ways you can help!
1. Save the numbers below into your phone to call in case of an emergency.
2. Keep an extra pair of leather gloves and a carrier in your vehicle in case of emergencies.
3. Volunteer as an emergency driver with the local wildlife rescues – contact them to see how you can help.
